1. The southern part of the island of Great Britain, now specified geopolitically as one of the constituent country|constituent countries of the United Kingdom.

Usage notes

• Outside the United Kingdom, and even in England itself, the term “England” is often misused as a synonym for the United Kingdom as a whole.
• Much of British legislation is limited to England and Wales as a unit, and the English-speaking parts of Wales are almost indistinguishable from England.
• Cornwall is the only part of England to have its own language, and is considered by a small minority of its inhabitants to be separate from England.
