Aux côtés de Gervais Bron, 15 ans de métier, Gabriel découvre le monde des croque-morts, les macchabées, les enterrements, le business… et surmonte ses réticences tout en commettant toutes les bourdes imaginables, afférentes à l’apprentissage du métier de croque-mort. Au prix d’acrobaties constantes, il tente de dissimuler son nouveau job à ses parents, babas sur le retour, hostiles à l’idée de tout travail sérieux, et à son amoureuse, Claire, qui voit en lui un grand musicien. La situation se complique lorsqu’il vend des obsèques à prix d’or à un certain Monsieur Froissart, qui n’est autre que le grand père de Claire, furieuse contre les vautours qui ont profité de la faiblesse du vieil homme…!
