The 13 Vietnamese poachers arrested after the incident are just the latest in a long line to have intruded upon Philippine waters, violating both local and international laws. Last year over 200 Green turtles were retrieved in the Sulu Sea and two years ago 359 CITES-protected Napoleon or Humphead Wrasse were seized. Fear that Philippines would again have a lax attitude, this time WWF is acting as a watchdog to ensure that charges are pressed in this case. This may discourage the poachers a bit but until and unless government itself doesnt take some concrete steps, the precious and historical ecology will continue to depleting.

The mission is a sign of Chinas growing strategic power in the region and underscores the country growing political clout in the world. It also speaks about the importance China gives to space exploration for commercial and military purposes. For sure US dominance in space is under threat. China has joined Europe and India in announcing ambitious new developments in aerospace. For sure 2008 has given the Chinese reason enough to rejoice in national pride and dignity and be hopeful for a better life in the dragon country.Short selling bannedFinally the governments all over the world including the Dutch have woken up to the menace of naked short selling. The Dutch Finance Minister Wouter Bos, is banning "naked" short selling of financial stocks for the next three months to increase the stability of financial markets. A number of countries have clamped down on the practice of selling borrowed shares in hopes of buying them back cheaper and pocketing the difference. The ban has gone in effect from Monday, and most of the traders are having a sigh of relief as no more they can see a market meltdown in a day or week. The stability may produce some confidence in the investors who have faced massive loss in last few weeks. Britain and Germany are among other countries that have taken similar measures.Need anti terror strategyTime is running out for the Muslim world to form an anti terror strategy that effectively tackles the growing problem of international terrorism. Such measures have become essential especially when wests violent tactics have not only failed but actually incited more terrorist attacks throughout the world. A prospective anti terror strategy should try to address the root causes of terrorism which include social economic deprivation and lack of representation in political decision making. Muslim world must curb the activities of madrasas that provide medieval education and allow half literate Muslim clerics to misinterpret Islam and project it as a faith that condones violence for realization of political economic goals. State education system must provide moderate liberal education that promotes tolerance of outlook amongst the young. Governments must initiate constructive economic policies that generate employment and help dispel the hopelessness and insecurity which pushes them towards violence. Hundreds go ape for Gorilla Run

Hundreds of people have taken to the streets of east London dressed as gorillas to raise money for charity. About 750 runners joined in the sixth annual 7km Great Gorilla Run, which is thought to be a world record for the largest gathering of people wearing gorilla costumes. The event was staged by The Gorilla Organisation, a charity which protects the endangered species in central African rainforests.
