Tuition Exchange Program Perhaps the most heartbreaking casualties of recent stock market performance are the 20 state-sponsored college tuition pre-payment plans throughout the country. Speed Racer didn’t deserve an ounce of the awful criticism it received, and is sure to find new life through its gorgeous Blu-ray. Adapted from the 1960s Japanese animated series, the film focuses on t

Yesterday afternoon I saw Tyler Perry’s “The Family That Preys” with a group of friends. In an email newsletter, he said he wrote this film after hearing the song “I Hope You Dance,” which Gladys Knight re-recorded for the film. Like all of his movies, you see the good and bad of the human condition. I think that’s where Perry really shines, because he shows us that we humans are a little more complicated than we’d like to be. His good is not quite as good as we want it to be. We do good deed

  • Common-Sense Flexibility: Rebelling Against “Rebellion”

The One Commandment: Thou Shalt Produce Thy Films As All Others Do.The fact that most most films made today border on complete unwatchability is probably due almost entirely to rigidity; producers seem to have collectively agreed, perhaps against their better individual judgment, that the making of films is a paint-by-numbers affair, and that the only viable course of action consists of adhering to a regimented and “tested” checklist of procedures. There has to be a script. It has to be revise
