NSF-GLAST-Launch
NSF-GLAST-LaunchUnknown length - 6 Sep 2008Bobby, KF4GTA posted a video: The Gamma-ray Large Area Space Telescope, or GLAST, is a space observatory that will be used to perform gamma-ray astronomy observations from low Earth orbit. Its main instrument is the Large Area Telescope (LAT), with which astronmers mostly intend to perform an all-sky survey studying astrophysical and cosmological phenomena such as active galactic nuclei, pulsars, other high-energy sources and dark matter. Another instrument aboard GLAST, the GLAST Burst Monitor (GBM), will be used to study gamma ray bursts. GLAST, launched aboard a Delta II rocket on 2008-06-11, is a joint venture of NASA, the United States Department of Energy, and government agencies in France, Germany, Italy, Japan, and Sweden. On February 8, 2008 NASA announced it was seeking suggestions for a new name for GLAST that, "Will capture the excitement of GLAST's mission and call attention to gamma-ray and high-energy astronomy."

GLAST is a powerful space observatory that will open a wide window on the universe. Gamma rays are the highest-Energy form of light, and the gamma-ray sky is spectacularly different from the one we perceive with our own eyes. With a huge leap in all key capabilities, GLAST data will enable scientists to answer persistent questions across a broad range of topics, including supermassive black-hole systems, pulsars, the origin of cosmic rays, and searches for signals of new Physics. For more on this story, please see:http://figbranch.com/index.php?option=com_content&task=view&id=447&Itemid=32Credits:NASA/Goddard Space Flight CenterFreePlaymusic.comJim Newton

NASAOrigem: Wikipédia, a enciclopédia livre. Steamboat McGoo, BMEWS member and host of the delightfully twisted blog Aardvarks & Asshats is still on hiatus. He moved to a place so far out in the country that they haven’t even invented electricity yet. Then he had to build a house to live in, and since the property is really rural, he even had a hard time finding illegal aliens to do the work! So things are going slowly. So this is sorta-Steamboat-ish, just because I miss him. Black Hole Screams Across the Universe Leftist Cel
Scream of Black Hole’s Birth Detected Halfway Across the Universe

Even though no humans have reported seeing it directly, the gamma-ray burst, an explosion that signals the violent death of a massive star, is changing theories of how these events look. GLAST mission renamed to Femi and first light picture
Nasa’s GLAST mission has been renamed to the Femi mission in honor of Enrico Femi. (see the below biography) NASA has also released the “first light” image taken from only 95 hours of data from this new instrument. This is only the beginning of great images this satellite will produce. The image is comparable to the EGRET instrument, on the Compton Gamma-Ray Observatory, that took years to produce - instead of hours. This is a flattened map of the entire sky: To recap: the FEMI satellite w

Science runs your life. Have no doubts about this at all. It is in everything you do, everything you are. How we deal with science, engineering, and innovation affects the air you breathe, the water you drink, the food you eat, the medicine you take, the lifespan you statistically enjoy, the computer you are sitting at, and the prosperity — or lack thereof — of the country you call home. Physics experiments to get more and more dangerous
CERN’s LHC, mBH & GLAST SNAFU? Physicists at Organisation Européenne pour la Recherche Nucléaire (CERN) had a safety meeting to discus the possibility that their experiment planned for 10th October might accidentally create black holes, at a rate of 1 per second. If created it isn’t sure what these micro-black holes will do. Some say the black-holes should be unstable due to their small size, and should disappear due to emitting Hawking-radiation. Also they could fly off into space at the speed
