And City were soon out of sight - Vedran Corluka and Ireland combining down the right to tee up Elano on 70 minutes before the same trio linked up to add a third goal seven minutes later. Both teams ended up with just 10 men on the pitch, as City substitute Kelvin Etuhu limped off soon after becoming his side's third replacement of the game. But, despite a mammoth 10 minutes of added time, West Ham could still not muster a shot on target on a miserable afternoon for Alan Curbishley's men. Curbishley, who could see defender Anton Ferdinand sold to Sunderland next week, lost Carlton Cole to injury after just 31 minutes and the striker becomes the latest name on a lengthy injury list at Upton Park.

Wigan keeper Mike Pollitt, who was a late promotion to the starting line-up following an injury to Chris Kirkland in the pre-match warm-up, may have been disappointed not to have kept Deco's effort out. But Chelsea were uninspiring overall and the goal proved to be a rare moment of quality from the visitors. Jason Koumas then showed his eye for a pass when he played Zaki through on goal but the Welshman's well-struck shot was parried by Cech. The loose ball just evaded the on-rushing Emile Heskey, who would have had the simple task of sidefooting in if Cech's save had rolled into his path. Cech pushed Emmerson Boyce at a corner and escaped conceding a penalty and, although Ricardo Carvalho headed over at the other end, Chelsea struggled to match the tempo of the JJB Stadium side. Wigan's quick passing and a clever Palacios backheel gave Zaki another sight of goal and Cech had to save well to keep out his shot. London takes over as Olympic host

Video - London 2012's Olympic preview London has received the Olympic flag to signal the start of its reign as Olympic host city and spark wild celebrations in the capital. Mayor of London Boris Johnson was given the flag by IOC President Jacques Rogge at the closing ceremony in Beijing. An eight-minute handover presentation, featuring a red double-decker bus, footballer David Beckham and musicians Jimmy Page and Leona Lewis followed. An estimated 40,000 people celebrated the handover at a party in London. Johnson waved the flag four times, as scripted, before handing it to an usher. He will bring the flag back to London on Tuesday and fly it outside City Hall alongside the Paralympic flag when those Games have concluded in September. Johnson displayed the flag at a major celebration in Beijing on Sunday for athletes, organisers, senior politicians including Prime Minister Gordon Brown, spectators and the media.
