"We are now seeing the first signs that it's paying off. You've only got to look at the ages of some of our award winners to realise that we are beginning to attract younger people into the industry," he said. "It's all very encouraging. If they manage that, they'll do us all a favour. Dix is a 13 yr old Lippizan cross. His early dressage training was very heavy handed which lead to incidences of rearing and falling over. Draw reins were used as well. The last 5 yrs have been focused on resolving health issues. He's metabolic, is very hormonal, and before moving from FL to TN he had stopped sweating. The last six months have seen a distinct improvement in health and attitude. Dix is a very sensitive horse and still gets 'stuck' when he gets worried. The goals are to develop balance and relaxation which are clearly still a work in progress.
