*AUDIO* clip of Director Lenora Karpa speaking out against the proposed creation of Ten (10) One-Time, $1,000 academic student scholarships for the Top 10 ranked students in the Junior Class (as of June 2008) who are accepted into a post-secondary higher education institutions. The merit scholarships were to be funded by prohibiting out-of-state travel for School Directors in 2007-2008 and transferring $10,000 from board travel services to the Sto-Rox Education Foundation. You will hear Director Lenora Karpa say "not with my tax dollars" thereby denying deserving students the opportunity to earn college scholarships. Dirctor Lenore Karpa feels that since she could afford to pay for her children's college expenses all on her own, then everyone else in the Sto-Rox community must also pay for themselves. Is this serving the best interests of all students? While Mrs. Lenora Karpa is fortunate to have been in the position to self-finance her children's education, not everyone in the Sto-Rox community has that luxury. Instead, Mrs. Lenora Karpa and other members on the Board voted to use the money for themselves to finance a board member trip to Sunny Orlando, Florida. Publicly available and documented board minutes will show that the following School Directors voted NO against awarding merit scholarships to Sto-Rox Children: NO VOTES: Lenora Karpa, John Karpa, Linda Jacobs, Luann Schipani, Carlton Brown and Kevin Kochirka. These NO votes were cast on November 15, 2007 at a public board meeting held in the HS Cafe. This was legally recorded in full compliance with the Pennsylvania Open Meetings Sunshine Law. The PA Open Meetings Sunshine Law allows school board meetings, and those participating, to be publicly audio and/or video recorded. This posting was (audio) recorded in full compliance with the PA Open Meetings Sunshine Law. No video was captured at this board meeting. Public web photos have been streamed for you to hear the audio of this meeting. This was posted as a public service to inform all constituents of the Sto-Rox community about the actions of their governing Board of Directors. Attend Board Meetings to ask why the Board Budgets money for themselves to take Trips to Orlando and San Diego but will not transfer that same money to the Sto-Rox Education Foundation for for academic merit scholarships for deserving students. The board has even budgeted $13,000 this year for itself to buy board members BRAND NEW LAPTOPS, while our High School has student computers that are over 5 years old.
